Les marchés de Périgueux, November & December

In October, we were still wandering randomly around the market, but by November and December, we knew who carried the best tomatoes, leeks, or strawberries, and could zip through before spending a leisurely morning at the café.  Of course, most days we chose to linger a bit…

In mid-November, Périgueux went duck crazy!  And they were already pretty nuts about duck to begin with!  In Place Saint-Louis, they even opened the “Marché au gras.”  Yes, the fat market.  Whole ducks, duck legs, duck filet, and big bricks of duck fat.  They know what they like, the Périgourdins.

And then it got cold.  But the locals were still out and about to do their shopping, so we braved the elements, too.  It seems they’re quite used to the cold here.  I can say that I am now as well, nearly three months into a sub-zero (ºC) winter.  Brrr.
